Who knew!
The humble shipping container was first designed in its modern state in 1949 as a 30ft aluminium box that could be stacked 2 high. A big deal at that time. How times have changes though, as today, dependant on the size of a ship a vessel can carry up to 20,000 on a single ship- an engineering feat! They are also no longer made from aluminium but instead 3mm thick steel meaning that they are exceptionally strong and sturdy, with greater longevity.
However, the humble shipping container no longer just carries products around the world but they are being repurposed into anything from pharmacy containers, to houses , pop up bars, car showrooms, shops and much more. The ideas keep coming, and is truly recycling at its best.
